Warp17

The Stateful Traffic Generator for L1-L7 is a lightweight solution for generating high volumes of session based traffic with very high setup rates. WARP17 currently focuses on L5-L7 application traffic (e.g., HTTP) running on top of TCP as this kind of traffic requires a complete TCP implementation. Nevertheless, WARP17 also supports application traffic running on top of UDP.

I’ve contributed on this opensource project aimed to substitute the expensive IxNetwork (from Ixia, now Keysight) and Spirent for internal testing, Warp17, a stateful traffic generator, which is in other words a simulator of “internet traffic” helpful to test and stress internet boxes such as switches, routers or firewalls. After an year of training I’ve been promoted as the project manager, during this time I’ve been in charge of:

  • planning of the roadmap of Warp17
  • projecting and writing of the features and unit tests
  • bug hunting
  • technical support for configuration and troubleshooting
  • virtualisation (and automatic deploy) of our tool
  • creation of dev/user documentation sets and courses
  • teaching and mentoring the use and application of Warp17
